Usenet ran on UUCP and was independent of the far far smaller TCP network. It wasn't until 1996 that TCP caught up and was as big as UUCP.
Usenet was pretty much over by then. It started in 74 (!).
The TCP assholes:
o Didn't invent social media. We did.
o Fucked up names and numbers. Ours are still free. And kept by the same people that invented DNS.
o Their "elders" are what we'd call on Usenet "newbies". They're new to this.

DNC propranfa from the whores the IEFT, which all serious internet engineers now avoid. All new developments are kept far far away from anything that starts with "i" such as the ietf, iana, icann. etc. They are not to be trusted.
Once trust is had been abrogated it's hard to get back. Ask yourself what would it take to think K*shpureff is ok? For many people the answer is "nothing could do that, ever"
Same with the I* ecosystem. Best avoided.
