Raspberry Pi
Michael Kirsch to Raspberry Pi
20 October 2018
I am really amazed how far these cheap Wifi adapters from China, which I bought at Amazon, work. For the test I connected one of them to a Raspberry Pi3 and the other to my MacBook. Since there is unfortunately no driver for MacOS for the adapters, I used a Windows 10 via "Parallels Desktop" on the Mac. I set up the Raspberry as an access point and used the Mac as a client. Windows showed me the signal strength to the Raspberry with 3 of 4 bars (i count the point as the first bar). Unfortunately I couldn't really test the throughput due to lack of time, but I was able to surf quite comfortably via the connection. Youtube Video (SD) ran without any problems, and the web UI of my Voice-over-IP software was also very easy to use. I measured the distance once with Google Earth and came to a distance of 3,45km. However, the connection only works with direct visual contact. If there is only one tree in between, nothing arrives anymore.
