ALTAQUARIA | solo
THE INTERNETS first tropical fish discussion group. Hard it may be to believe, the internet had no place to discuss tropical fish. There was a froup for cats, dogs and birds, but nothing for tropical fish or terrariums or aquariums or ponds. An attempt was made to make an aquarium group, but the powers that be decided there wasn't enough interest to justify, basically a name in a list of groups and that any such discussions should take place in the pets group. The pets group was mostly housebreaking puppies. In response, some different powers that be went and made a tropical fish group called alt.aquaria because in 1986 the alt network had different rules. In fact alt.aquaria flourished to the point where somebody mentioned: "alt.aquaria is the only shining gem in the sewer that is alt". Alt.aquaria became a victim of its own success when a few years later the group was moved to rec.aquaria, so the usenet network that once rejected the idea was now stealing the group and in fact alt.aquaria died out after that. It's still around but because there are many other groups around like rec.pets and sci.aquaria, it didn't get much traffic after they were created. This then is Facebook group that was started by the same people behind alt.aquaria and has the same rules: its about tropical fish or fishkeeping, or a related subject, then its welcome here.
