In my first year Hybrid Media studio course I made various installations and sound sculptures. This wind chime combines industrial metal components - screws, washers, nuts, brass fittings, and metal rods - hanging freely on strings above a Tibetan singing bowl. Piezo vibration sensors were attached to capture sounds as the elements struck each other.
A metal mesh cage between the strings contains two ball bearings that roll freely, adding a unique rattling sound. The entire piece was designed to evoke the sounds of the city, using construction materials to create an organic, industrial soundscape when moved by wind or touch.
