Toronto Food Spots Recommendations
Located on Queen St West (224 Queen St W). A beautiful French-inspired pastry shop and cafe with a relaxing, charming interior - perfect for sketching, lingering over coffee or tea (their tea selection is solid). Standouts include their marvelous (signature meringue-based desserts) and excellent bread pudding. A lovely spot for a peaceful break downtown.
Excellent Thai spot (multiple locations, but the original on Yonge is iconic). Their Thai Basil Shrimp Noodles are a standout - perfectly stir-fried with fragrant Thai basil, tender shrimp, and just the right hit of spice. Fresh, flavorful, and consistently great. One of the better quick Thai options downtown.
French-inspired bakery/cafe known for their excellent croissant sandwiches. Buttery, flaky croissants stuffed with quality fillings (ham & cheese, turkey, smoked salmon, etc.). Great for breakfast or a light lunch. The pastries are legitimately good - one of the stronger croissant spots in the city.
Great Afghan spot at Queen & John (240 Queen St W). They do excellent rice bowls and platters. The grilled lamb racks (or lamb kabobs) are a highlight - tender, well-seasoned, and juicy. At around $30, its a bit of a splurge but absolutely worth it for the quality. Pair it with their lentil soup, which is hearty, flavorful, and nicely spiced. Solid halal option in the Entertainment District / Queen West area.
Jaffna Street Food (Village by the Grange)
Authentic Tamil/Sri Lankan street food spot located in the food court at Village by the Grange (275 Dundas St W). Super tasty and very reasonably priced. Standouts include their mutton rolls - crispy, savory, and packed with flavorful filling. On weekends, dont miss the coconut appams (coconut milk pancakes), which are amazing, light, and delicious. Great quick bite option near Kensington Market / AGO area.
