An ornamental and edible hot pepper bearing 3-4", dark black fruits. The fruits are conical, much like the Jalapeno and eventually ripen to red. Mildly hot, great for salsas. The plant has purple flowers with beautiful purple-veined foliage. Sow indoors and then transplant after last frost. 70-80 days.

OH: pros: Very prolific, beautiful
cons: thought they'd be hotter
This was my first year trying to grow peppers and out of maybe 4 or 5 varieties these were the only ones that produced for me and in large amounts from early July to mid-October. The black and red peppers were beautiful! We didn't think these were very spicy which worked out for me this year but we did notice that closer to the stem, the spicier it got. I gave a lot away to neighbors this year but will be trying to make salsa and freezing some next year.

These poor guys got decimated multiple times by hornworms while I was away, they bounced back every time. I had peppers most everyday. They are beautiful. Not hot, though occasionally one would surprise me.
UK: What are the pros? Easy to Grow

MO: What are the pros? The colors and flavor
What are the cons? not easy seed starting
Review:
In the past Black Hungarian pepper seeds seemed difficult for me to germinate. But, this year both saved and new seeds shot right up and grew well under lights, surviving potting-up and transplanting into the garden. An early attack of horn worms didn't do much damage or deter their growth. They are doing well in south-central MO. zone 6. I have lots of peppers, both black and luscious lipstick red. I love both colors. Even in the hot, dry, on-the-verge-of -drought present conditions I have lots of those lovely purple flowers. These are a mildly hot pepper and letting the plant wilt a bit before watering doesn't seem to increase the heat. (That's what Rezha is for!) I use these raw in salads, in cooked recipes and in chutney and pickles. I also dice several bags full and freeze for winter use. I recommend this pepper
NE: What are the pros? Early and beautiful
What are the cons? None

These were the earliest and most beautiful peppers in my garden last year and am growing them again this year. The leaves are either a deep glossy green or a dark purple/black. The black peppers have a fresh green taste like a very mild jalapeno, and when allowed to ripen to red have a deep smoky flavor with medium spice. I like to let them ripen red and chop up to toss in a stir fry. If you are looking for pepper that is early, prolific, and beautiful you will not be disappointed.

Gorgeous, easy to grow pepper. Produces a ton, and after the frost I cut them back and repotted in windowsill pots to overwinter, where they still produced peppers! I'm super happy with this one, and it's made its way into the set of peppers I grow every year.

Black Hungarian Pepper Seeds are the most dependable hot pepper that I grow. Two summers ago, we not only had a very wet summer, but a very cold summer. This was the only pepper to produce in those conditions. This pepper is not only very early and productive but is also very ornamental. The green foliage has purple veins and beautiful purple flowers. The jalapeno shaped fruit is also a deep purple, almost black, and it ripens to red. An excellent patio plant. The flavor of this pepper outstanding and I use it in salsa or spicy casseroles. This pepper is about as hot as a chili pepper, perhaps slightly milder. Great for short season areas. (70 days)

Pepper Hungarian Black
Looks like a Purple Jalapeno, but slightly larger and wider. Also, the heat will disapear when it's completely ripe. Nice pruple flowers. Pods darken as they mature. 5-6 cm. Around 70 days (purple).
