cleared off black rack. got to sell those coleus and bananas ASAP. amaryllis is indoors now.
brought in all the banana plants, most of them separated, maybe more than 20 plants. It's supposed to get to 2C tonight so things may die.
Brought in: hab, br, padron? black pearl, ghost, mushroom peppers. choc hab.
left out yellow cayenne under the chair, it may stay alive there. forgot to bring in lemon spice jalapeno. black pearl is loking gorgeous, has 1 big black pepper, some smaller ones starting.
|
yellow cayenne survived.
Its been raining all day, all week.
Tomorrow: repot lemon drops and bring indoors.
Repot lemon jalapeno.
Repot oxalis.
Pick peppers, repot for indoors.
|
picked 3 smaller anaheims and 1 yellow cayenne, plus another grape tigrella.
|
picked 1 red jalapeno and 1 red shishito. picked some anaheim and poblano. still more Anaheims left.
Stripped 2 pepper plants. still peppers growing so strip more later.
saved flower heads: tall orange African type marigolds down the street close to organic garage, which also had some pretty zinnias
2: tall orange ones, might be different than #1 but closer to our house.
Brought in the yellow cayenne, and repotted and brought int he yellow jalapeno, it has 2 plants now in a 6 inch pot.

worked outside for 1 hour until dark at 7.20pm. emptied large sink of pots, took down 1 long basil, moved peat, compost to further back corner, hidden behind a small elm/honey locust tree. There is many shingles and tree branch twigs there to clear out.
Took down 2 largest poblano pots, both had roots growing into the ground. got 2 large poblano 1 small from those.
took down 1 lemon drop, 1 large anaheim.
put them all in 6" pots. Trimmed them down to 2 longest growing branches, straight up. took all leaves and fruit except on lemon drop.
still want to put lemon jalapeno in smaller pot, and yellow cayenne.
have 2 more anaheim ready to repot into one 6".
possible damage on pepper anaheim/poblano:
Tomato Pith Necrosis
|
Tigrella tomato has disappeared. very sad about it. also has disappeared the larger chocolate shepherd pepper on the plant. they were there when i last checked on them, on the 9th.
Got pictures of the diseased anaheim plant. picked 3 Anaheims, there are half a dozen large ones on the diseased plant still.
cleared leaves off the poblano plants in one pot, there is 2 plants in there. they look healthy. will be saving them asap.
|
repotted yellow cayenne into small yellow pot. took out 2 poblano plants and put them indoors. Threw all the banana peels I'd saved into the black tub.
Today: bring in geranium.
4 plants downstairs. (2 poblano, 1 anaheim, 1 lemon aji)
to come in: 1 poblano pot, 2 anaheims. 2 Shishitos. serrano to 4", jalapeno to 4"
1 padron- transfer. 1 lemon aji - transfer?
Others to come in: oxalis, coleus, papyrus.
|
repotted and brought in: padron, poblano, choc shep, serrano.
whats left: jalapeno, shishito.
brought in geranium, and mush pepper.
flowers left: oxalis, coleus, papyrus. Bulbs x4.
Left all anaheim outdoors. dont know what to do with the dirt yet. accidentally brought 1 anaheim inthe tother day, looks like it has a touch of the disease. all anaheims have a bit of it so far. 1 has the most. picked almost all peps, 3 had insect boring damage into the fruit. found a worm in a yellow jalapeno the other day. not happy.

and peppers.
watered today.
raked all leaves onto the tree and raspberry bed.
a raspberry or two ready to pick and a few more coming.
|
Yesterday also picked 2 small unripe indigo rose. and dug up 2 onions, the size of shallots. they were egyptian onions, and the onion was purplish like a shallot. using them in dinner tonight. Not very big, last year we had a bigger one.
Was going to repot our choc. hab in the cell pack, and noticed 2 sprouts came up in the other cell. they appear to be dragonfruit sprouts. excited.
"An Egyptian Walking Onion bulb is about the same size and shape as a shallot. Bigger bulbs may be obtained by cutting off the topsets before they develop. That way the plant can put its energy into the onion bulb in the ground instead of into the topsets.

So we dug up all the bulbs.
Except freesia, which we want to force indoors. it should be ok outside. we will check at 3 am what the weather is like tomorrow.
the shishitos and brought them in. about 2 pints worth. Brought in the other lemon drop as well. 2 per 6" pot. except the lemon drop is by itself in 6".
checked the water chestnut it had nothing but mushy bulbs.
jalapenos stil outside, and tomatoes too.
|
idea: bring tom tumbs inndoors

brought green oxalis inside, 4 small pots 4" and 1 6" with a huge amount of bulbs and a winter tuber in it. also tons of good size bulbs loose in a 4" pot.
r repotted all the bromeliads today, they look great. used equal parts shrimp compost, peat, cedar mulch.

Pepper seeds can be dipped in a dilute hydrogen peroxide mix (1 tsp hydrogen peroxide per cup water) for one minute to disinfect seeds prior to planting- this process helps get rid of any unwanted or potential bacterial or fungi that may be hitch hiking on your seeds. If your soil or seed sprouting setup is susceptible to mold growth this can be useful to kill mold spores.

Killing frost last night. earlier than last year which was nov 5.
last night we brought in the purple oxalis, and a cutting of each coleus. Saved 2 jalapenos the night before. 2 are still out there. fruit looks okay despite -5 temps. coleus are decimated though. Harvested oregano today, washed and tied up to dry. Saved another 4 jalapeno plants. Total 2 plants per pot, 4 pots. The peppers picked the other day fill up a 1 litre container. Tomatillos are in a bag almost 2 pints worth.
to do: plant coleus, plant bananas
transplant pineapple
transplant pepper
clean up yard and dead plants.
Plant gooseberry, currant by tree.
label mint pots
dump anaheim dirt next to tree for currants.
