Delight of the senses: Lush
Today we went to Lush!
Had such a great time. Barely anyone in the shop. The CSA was so helpful. she had premade samples to give me. I asked for a figs and leaves, and new rose soap. we chatted about soaps and skin. I said i wanted to see if figs and leaves is exfoliating which i had heard. I got an end piece of HIWTK soap. i had never smelled this line, and was determined to try it as it sounded so good. i had been craving something sweet smelling this winter and this soap would do the job.
I smelled the outback mate, it smelled so good. a good minty smell, very good. I smelled lotus, it was okay. a bit synthetic. i'd have to try it t really know the smell. Rhubarb and custard I was not able to smell. also would need a sample of that t tell. 13 unlucky for dirt smelled nice. i would try it.
What a beautiful store. The bath bombs are so perfectly shaped without a single scrape or break. The bombs glitter unbelievably. They are so shiny and beautiful. I was particularly struck by the Lucky Tiger karma scented bath bomb, a perfect little cat's face, covered in beautiful gold glitter. it shone and sparkled like nothing I'd seen before. I looked at the other bath bombs and noticed they all had a beautiful glittery sheen to them as well. so gorgeous. I had seen these in photos and videos, but nothing did it justice like seeing in real life. They were all so beautiful and bright, wonderful colours I wanted each one. A few bath bombs did not glitter, such as the Big Eggplant, but it was such a lovely work of handmade art with nice colours that complement each other.
First we sanitized, and looked t the heart jelly on he same stand, the Valentine's stand. we smelled it, it was great. smelled strawberry. I had planned on getting one if I approve of the smell, and I did approve so it was the first thing I got into my cart. We smelled the shower gel right beside it, I can Resist Everything but temptation. i was tempted to get this one. Earlier when I read reviews of it, I wasn't tempted to get it. When I smelled it in store, I liked it a lot. I had heard it smelled like fresh apples. In my opinion, it smelled of apples but in a mildly sweet, delicious way. it smelled natural, with a soft apple smell, a beautiful smell. not too sweet, not like biting a real apple. I like apples, but I'm not too fond of eating them raw, after eating so many in my time. I was tempted to get this shower gel.
We moved on to perfumes. I asked to see some solids testers: LOM, rose jam, American cream, shade. they didn't have Sun which i wanted to test. I got a sample of sympathy fr the skin at the same time. Richard spent a long time at the perfumes testing almost all of them by spraying them in the air and sniffing. i sprayed Shade on my right sweater wrist, and karma on the left and karma on my neck. later on i could not smell karma on my skin at all. neither could Richard when i asked him.
Richard cam out of there with breath of god, which he said smells like a familiar perfume. i got th pansy which Richard love sonm me. it had a strange musk undertone i didn't like too much, but i did notice juicy fruity subtle smell at first. must be the oranges. not sure if he musk smell is synthetic at all, i dislike smells that seem synthetic. i noticed this a lot more afer smelling all the snow fairy after Christmas.
I admit i like the breath of god, it first smells like melons, and i had tried it one previous occasions. later at home i began to smell the other notes, it has a mature cologne smell, but not overpowering. mixed this with the sweet, cool, refreshing melon smell, it is quite pleasant. thats the thing with these perfumes, it can take hours of a few exposures to really smell it.
Richard says it smells like "blue" perfume, many brands marketed 'blue" perfume in the 80s meant to smell like refreshing water.
we had wanted to buy LOM which had grown on us. Richard says it smells like karma. obviously without the citrus notes. but very close. they had a tester but no LOm solid for sale.
i picked up the each peach bar. for months i had thought i would never want this bar. i use these bars as lotion for hands in the evening as we watch TV. i thoroughly enjoyed every one I'd tried. the citrus smell didn't sound unique enough to me to warrant buying it. but over ht months in winter i craved citrus smelling lotion. well this bar did it alright. out of the bag it smells strongly of a good citrus smell. not like lemon oil, but like lemon peel. a bit sharper of a scent, it wakes you up.
I asked the associate for 2 shaving cream samples for my husband. We moved on to shower gels. I had wanted to get samples, but it turned out we had gotten too busy and for whatever reason couldn't. We smelled Karma, it smelled great. I even used a bit of shower gel at a bowl. cant remember if i used the karma or something else though. it was red, Richard says it was bright pink. hmm.
i smelled HIWTK shwer gel, it smelled great. i smelled sleepy. it was good. i smelled happy hippy, i didn't like it. i didn't recognize the smell. kind of like maybe a cleaning fluid? it was sharp. should have tried it with some water to see if the smells change. i wanted to sample olive branch but didn't, and now kicking myself. i didn't even smell it. i smelled dirty springwash, and let Richard smell it. it smelled minty, not amazing. maybe more smells come out when you use it.
the 100 ml bottles seem quite small. if i bought one, i think id get the next size up. the small bottle e just looks too sad! i thought maybe it was a 50ml bottle at first. i guess its god for traveling.
Next we looked at shower jellies. they were cute. I even washed my hands with conga at the sink which had been cut into cubes. I liked how it washed so easily. the smell was okay, not great from what I could tell. Richrd didnt liek it. I wanted to liek it considering it was raspberry scented.
I also used the New Rose soap at the sink. it was nice.
I went back to shower gel area. I picked up a Scrubee. it's my first time trying this product. I had wanted a Soft Couer massage bar a few months ago, but then they got discontinued. I wanted it for the scent. Well, the scrubee is in the same scent family, though I heard it smells a little different than the sof couer. I tried to smell the shower oils: coco loco, and minimosa. couldnt smell anything unfortunately. My nose might have been to tired out.
I didn't see anything left over from boxing day sales, even though just days before it said they restocked jolly shower gel. tangerine and close spiced i believe. sounds nice. i wish i had gotten yog nog now. oh well we will see what happens next boxing day.
i had everything on my list and so went to check out. it turned out I had an extra $6 credit. Hubby went to the other side of the store to pick up something. he came back with a huge twilight jelly! he said he had a car once with the same metallic blue colour. I was so surprised at what he chose but very happy. I paid $10 for the remaining balance.
before I left, I sprayed 2 body sprays: plum rain on one end of my scarf, and the comforter on the other end of my scarf. all the rest of the way home i could smell it and they smelled amazing. they really compliment each other. the plum rain scent is a nice raisin or plum scent, but zingy. its nice. i only detected 1 note in it. it turns out the listed ingredients for plum rain are: Osmanthus Absolute , Petitgrain Oil , Sicilian Mandarin Oil. So the "plum" or raisin smell must be the "fragrance" part. which could be synthetic, or natural. it didn't smell synthetic.
The comforter. wow. what a smell. the blackcurrant part is really good. it brings me back to drinking fresh blackcurrant tea. really good authentic smell. Richard says it smells like ribena. which i never drank before. the comforter also has a sweet, vanilla note to it. its a nice note, that compliments the fruity note, and doesn't smell synthetic or overly sweet. I like it. it is a very strong scent overall. stronger than the plum rain.
Overall, I am very happy with my visit to lush and my purchases. I am glad that i made a list beforehand of everything i wanted or might want, and checked online that it was in my store. (they only had 6 solid perfume sin stock out of 15!) We spent 45 minutes in the store. we didn't get overwhelmed, like i normally do at lush. it was a great time.
Next time, I want: outback mate soap, avocado co wash, lip balm x2. Easter: lip oil, jelly. = 6 things. richard wants karma shower gel.
Plus: shade, lom perfume.
Mother's day soap. = 9 things.
If I need a lotion by then, I'd get lime bounty. Or charity pot. Or use up my massage bars.

This massage bar hs an amazing, natural lemony scent. it smells like fresh lemon. however there is no lemon in it. there is lime, orange, mandarin, and grapefruit.
We use massage bars as solid lotion for our hands, usually in the evening as we sit and watch movies for the night. it allows the oils to soak into out skin over a period of 5-10 minutes. it works great especially since our climate is very dry, and our hands can be tortured from cold and wind.
Keeping them soft, healthy and feeling good is easy with these massage bars. and our hands smell good and fresh too. In the evening, we use them after each time we wash our hands.
I am impressed with the combination of oils and butters: cocoa butter and shea butter, btu also avocado butter and mango butter. exotic and good for the skin!

feb 2 I like Scrubee so far, but I might have to stop using it around June/July because of wasps and bees could be attracted to it. (ref - Ro's Argan incident)

I bought the Scrubee because of the description of it, the ingredients, and the reviews. when i got home i could smell it properly for the first time. when i first took it out of the bag, it smelled like charity pot: floral, with a hint of sweetness. I loved it. i smelled it soem more and my mouth watered a bit. Mmm, I thought.
that night I kept it out beside me as I watched movies for the evening. I kept sniffing it periodically. it's a smell different than I expected, it doesn't smell strongly of honey as I had hoped. it does smell sweet though. I thoroughly enjoyed the smell on the first night. it was a bit more floral than I expected. the bergamot and orange oils are not discernible, they blend in to one big unique scent. We also rubbed it onto our hands a bit like a solid moisturizer. it moisturized very well.
this product is listed as "lightly scented" on the Lush website. I found it to have quite a strn scent. but i am okay with that as its a nice scent.

It truly does share the same scent as Scrubee, lightly sweet, floral scent. it works great as a soap and leaves my hands with a light fragrance for hours. i got an end piece and it's pretty hard, consistency wise, so it'll last me a good long time.
The soap itself is beautiful and cute. I love the honeycomb design on top - so unique, and aesthetically looks very good.

Feb 4. this is a strongly scented jelly. In the store I had no problem smelling the strawberry scent and immediately grabbed it. When we got it home, Richard said: it smells more like strawberry jam than our jam did! as we made strawberry jam just that day. the lemon, lime and ho wood oils add to the scent, staying int he background, but still there. they enhance the strawberry scent. its a great, natural, but powerful scent. we love it. all night as we sat and watched movies i had the strawberry jelly out and would periodically open the jar to smell the jelly. it was so different at this wintry time of year that i enjoyed the fruity smell. i suspect i would enjoy it any time of year. I also wished i had bought two! especially since it was seasonal. Richard said as we sat to watch TV: it smells of strawberry liqueur. I agree, it does smell a bit like that. i enjoy it thoroughly.
I cut off a small piece about 2 cm by 1 cm to use in the shower. i rubbed the jelly in a wet washcloth and mashed it gently til it disintegrated. This is my first jelly purchase ever. but i got the hang of it. it lathered pretty well. i used the washcloth and some suds were gone. i added some more water to it and the suds came back really quickly and there was lots of them. I am very pleased with how the jelly worked out and I like it a lot.

I am impressed with this jelly. I smell like strawberry after my showers and the scent lingers for a good long time. it smells like a real strawberry. even the next day at night, i start to smell strawberry again.

The same beautiful, relaxig scent of sleepy in a shower jelly. we cut the top portion of the jelly into 1 inch cubes and put them in a dish to wash our hands with. Just grab 1 cube and lather. it makes some suds and you can feel a soft slippery feeling on your hands, unlike regular soap. I've determined it must be the carrageenan (sea weed) that gives this slippery feeling. it seems to be conditioning to the skin. after using jellies, our skin feels so soft unlike anything we used berore.
the twilight jelly is so gorgeous to look at with its blue clour and parts of it deepening into a violet - purple clour. Sparkles inside the jelly make it feel liek your looking into a galaxy. its fun to hld and jiggle as your washing your hands with it. and fun to look at.
after using the twilight jelly, my hands are left with a wonderful lavender fragrance, soft, calming, definetely there. its like aromatherapy each time i wash my hands. how wonderful.

April 26: When I first smelled this, it was a musky scent. slightly fresh, with musk. no identifiable notes to me. its supposed to be citrusy and fresh. it has orange blossom flower. i tested it out and my husband said " thats your scent, i dont knw what it is but i lov eit on you." so i got it and kept wearing it for him. fast forward 2 months, and i finally got new scent notes from this one. after using about 1 square cm of product, i finally got a whiff of a delicous juicy scent. i smelled my had again. what is that? its pansy i realized. its a yummy, fruity, slightly orange scent, with some floral in there. i didnt smell any musk anymore. strange but delicous. longevity is a few hours. not really lasting to the end of the day.

it didn't smell as I thought it would, the scent is more subtle than I expected. it is nice. this is good if you are looking for a more subtle scent. the ylang ylang doesn't come out very much, its in the background.
|
sample size. Feb 3: this is a wonderful soap. it has a strong ylang ylang scent, and I love ylan ylang. in the background, there is a hint of florals: rose and rosehips - which have an earthy scent. it's a very nice soap, and I would buy a whole bar. I've never smelled ylang ylang so strongly before, and its just a perfect sent and the best ylang ylang I've ever smelled. just great.

I tried this in-store a few times before, and tried to smell it. it never smelled like much in store. I finally got a sample of it. I smelled it when i got home, still couldn't smell much. it seemed like a nice lotion though.
A day later, I tried it again right before bed, just on my hands. I opened the container and was knocked off my feet! It smelled so good. it smelled like bananas in a creamy, delicate, sweet way that I've never smelled bananas before. yet i definitely was bananas.
I've eaten my share of bananas and I knew this lotion was made with them. I was expecting, if i did smell bananas, for it to be more of the smell i am familiar with, and frankly a little bored with.
I was proved wrong! it smells like a dessert, only a creamy one you're allowed to rub onto your skin. So its not overly dessert-ish, its not overly sweet, its not overly bananas.
It's a truly amazing delicate fragrance. in the background there is the sandalwood which melds into the banana custardy type fragrance so well. it made my mouth water a little bit. and now i am crazy about it and use it every night before bed on my hands. I will be buying the full-size version for sure.

sample size. Feb 3: this smells wonderful. Richard used it on his hair and said it was very good at cleaning, but it wasnt cnditioning enouhg for his hair. i love the smell so much i would tmepted to get the body spray. i used a little bit as soap just becaus i loe th smell so much.
its a sweet smell, natural, not synteitc smelling, and citrusy and fruity with a bit of depth, probably fromt he frankincence.

Feb 2: Richard's review of shaving cream
it does feel nice and minty on your skin.
it does the job but its harder than shave soap.
used to the big foamy soap.
using cream, its hard to tell where you put it on already.
when you apply it and leave it fr a few minutes to soak in, it dries out like a clay face mask.
R would rather use a foaming shave soap. wishes there was a karma one.
it does smell nice, he says. (Used shaved ice)
