June 4
Transplanted squash sprouts: 1 pepo in pot by the tree, 1 pink banana in black square pot, 1 unknown in round orange pot, 1 pink banana in front corner of garden. 1 pink banana has sprouted in garden by the pine tree.
Transplanted Fairytale into the large 10 gallon bucket, in between 4 tomato plants (2 sweet million cherry, 2 roma) inside large black planter.
Used a 112 L bag of soil in one day.

Now have by maple tree: 3 turban squash, 2of which appears to be bush type so far, other 1 is starting to reach up the tree. On front of tree is 1 pepo with only 3 leaves.
in garden by the pine tree: 1 probably banana maybe' Casper. 1 definitely pink banana just sprouted by the pine tree - will need to transplant that as soon as we get dirt and a good pot.

1 seed has germinated.

First Turban flower is opening.

June 14
Looked at Turban flower closely and it is a female - there is a small cup squash shaped bulb at the base with faint green stripes. The flower is completely open. The male flowers on same plant are over 1" tall and look almost ready to open but are closed today.
All other squash plants have small flowers, but none are opening or very close.
We've been taking flowers off the tomato plants for a few days now. They are about 3' tall and we've just staked them with bamboo teepees.
The older squash leaves on the turbans are turning a bit yellow; might have been overwatered a bit.

June 15
Female flower on Turban was closed today, but male flower was open, so we hand pollinated the female with a paintbrush once in the late morning and in the afternoon. Not much pollen inside the male, but definitely got some inside the other flower.

June 16
Pollinated the 2nd turban plant's first flower with a neighboring turban plant. Pollen was noticeably white coloured from this flower and very scarce from all the flowers. In many of the flowers 1 or 2 tiny and round black beetle-like bugs were inside.
Took off some dead squash leaves.

June 17
Pollinated 3rd turban flower. It looks as though each turban has put up one female flower so far. Our 5th seedling came up today.
