An old Ukrainian variety, developed by the Soviet tomato breeder Fedor Tarasenko, who specialized in breeding large-fruited and productive tomato varieties. Although the original Russian name translates as ‘Hybrid Tarasenko 2’, this is an open pollinated variety. Fedor Tarasenko called his varieties ‘hybrid’ simply because he made crosses using two parents. These crosses were F1 hybrids, but he stabilized them before sharing seeds with other gardeners. Indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce a high yield of 3-4 oz., small, round or slightly oval, gorgeous red fruits with a pointy tip. Very cute looking and they taste deliciously sweet. Excellent for eating fresh or pickling.

Indeterminate. Mid season ( 85 days from transplant). This a rather unusual tomato, in the fact that it appears to be not a hybrid as named, as it breeds true to type every time you grow it. This is a great tomato with super flavor. Tarasenko-2 has good keeping qualities and will hold on the counter longer than most open pollinated garden varieties.
