Annie Kolola Itorcheak Lake Harbour was the trading post area, the Americans asked the Lake Harbour people where they can make a long, long airstrip, that's how the airstrip became one of the largest in the world 😃😂😃 4

Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak No that is not true, they were at crowell island in inuktitut it is called mialigaktaliminiq. Place where the americans settled.

Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak Mialigaktaliminiq or mialigaktaliviniq

Noel Junior Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak similar name, old American Military Base Camp just outside of Coral Harbour inuktut is called “Qallunaaraaluktaliviniq” 1

Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak Haha nice Noel Junior

Annie Kolola Itorcheak It is true too Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak, I've heard this from elders 😃😂😃

Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak Annie Kolola Itorcheak but mialigaktaliminiq is near eelauliqtuu. My great great grandfather was that one inuk bringing the americans here. They went to crowell island in 1941-42 and asked around where they can find a flat land to make an airstrip cause world war 2 was happening at the time. Americans took pictures of him (pauloosie nakasuk) in his kayak. I know that for certain. He helped them here, but there were people already living on this land. He knew the land very well. Not only him though but he is the main reason why we are here today.

Trevor Shiutiapik whalers, the northwest passage, rcmp, and the churches. almost all had an influence on the settlement and inuks whom they “governed”... oh yeah, money too! lol

Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak The RCMP, and all the money the inuit were introduced to, all of it came cause of the canadian government. They took over in 1956. Some inuit were given a 5 dollar bill in the 40's. They saw it as paper. And five bucks was a lot back in the 40's right?...See more

Trevor Shiutiapik and also the hudson’s bay company with their fur trading had a part with where the people settled. trading furs for tea, sugar, guns, and ammunition and even toys and so on...

Mosha Nowdluk Nookiguak I know, i loved every little thing about the HBC cause they wanted to trade fur for things like tobacco, bread, canned food etc. With the HBC they had no money, maybe the workers got paid i am not sure. But money got introduced first to us inuit by the Canadian Government in 1956.

Annie Kolola Itorcheak Lake Harbour had the first trading post in all Baffin Island as it was the closest to Northern Quebec.
