Response to the Starving Polar Bear
Response to the Starving Polar Bear

The guys who took this photo have since retracted their statement. If you listen to the people in the North, you'll hear a very different story. Inuit have been keeping track of polar bears for a very long time and the bears appear to be doing better and their numbers are going up. The wildlife manager addresses the bear in this photo:
"Goudie said while there are a few different polar bear groups that are in trouble, the majority are thriving.

He said despite that, most people have no idea and — from what he sees online — many seem to think that polar bears are in trouble and in decline globally.

Goudie points to one post he saw recently from National Geographic that showed what appeared to be a starving polar bear, but in reality was an animal that was sick.

"It's an easy story to put out there, that polar bears are in massive trouble. Sometimes I have to bite my tongue or keep my fingers off the keyboard when I see those social media posts," he said."

False stories like this starving bear can be damaging to people. Inuit already have to deal with the worst problems. Did you know that 7 out of 10 Inuit children are food insecure?

Watch this documentary, please. It is much better learning from the people who live there rather than some Americans who came over for a day and made up a story.
