2021 Lush Orders
2021 Lush Orders

Concerns about Lush:
Lush has a few good products, and comparing them price-wise some products are cheaper (massage bars) than other local companies. I figured it's because they buy in bigger bulk than small soap shops would.
That being said, they use talc in some soaps and their Fun bar. which talc is now known to be highly carcinogenic. I wouldnt want that on my skin or in our waterways.
Other things like parabens and whatnot i'm not too worried about.

For most things I shop at my local organic stores, healthy planet, organic garage, and sweet potato. A lot of their products are equivalent or better than lush on some levels. If you are extremely sensitive to products, you could buy the tub of pure shea butter of bag of cocoa butter and use that on your skin.

Also I can buy rose soap for $1.50, same as jasmine and sandalwood, so why would i want to pay Lush's $8-$10 price?

Answer: Lush uses cosmetic grade talc that is cleared to be used in some products. Soap is one of them. it shouldn't be a problem unless it dries out and you inhale a ton of it.

As for other soaps, they might sound similar but they just don't compare. its hard t tell from looking online, but lush soaps have WAY more essential oils in them. using a bar of their soap can be like putting perfume on your hands. When I use Karma to wash my hands, my hands are left smelling so wonderful for so long. It feels like aromatherapy. I just don't get that from other brands.

not to mention, Lush uses rare essential oils that just aren't seen very often. Such as litsea cubeba, a new favourite of mine, smells strongly of lime leaves with a sweet, citrusy, beautiful and unique scent. There are hundreds of essential oils that Lush uses and no other company seems to use. I cannot fathom why. The list goes on: lemon myrtle, sandalwood, oudh, juniper, elderflowers, buchu, elemi, rosewood...

The other companies don't have the combinations either. They simply add one or two essential oils to a soap and call it done. Well, that can be a tad boring.

Another fact is that Lush uses ethically farmed and bought ingredients: shea butter, cocoa butter, even some of heir essential oils like patchouli oil are sustainably farmed. And they don't use palm oil which adds o their sustainability practice.

March 2021: lush no longer has choose-your-own-size soap in stores. you must buy 100g slices only. a big let down for us as we wanted to try lots of the soaps and didnt want to pay $8 each.

New idea for our order: 2 different perfumes. Maybe a massage bar (whatever smells best). some samples, of soap or lotion.

in store shopping comments

March 31st. Walk in Store Plan: Compare solid perfumes. Compare massage bars. Lip Balm.
Maybe look at soap, last. Quick look at lotion.

Might end up with: 1x solid perfume, 1x massage bar, 1x soap = $40.
or: 2x solid perfume = $30.

apr 4: Figs and Leaves, Rhubarb & Custard, Hottie, Karma solid perfume - fresh batch mid-april.

samples

You can get samples to take home of products like solid soaps, shower gels, haircare products, body lotions, facial cleansers, toners, and moisturizers, etc.

Keep in mind that there are certain products that cannot be sampled like bath bombs, bubble bars, the fresh (refrigerated) face masks, massage bars, perfume, etc.

the way I got samples was by calling customer service immediately after I placed the order. I told them my order number and requested the two samples I had in mind. The lady on the phone was very nice and asked me about other products I generally liked and recommended a couple of different items (some soaps and lotions) and threw in samples of those as well so altogether I got five samples with my order so_apparently_you_can_request_specific_samples

Lush Tip:
When ordering from the UK, you can request samples of many items that the US site/stores won’t sample. This includes shampoo bars, jungle conditioner, full of grace, solid perfumes and some massage bars. They won’t always send everything...
Lush Tip:
When ordering from the UK, you can request samples of many items that the US site/stores won’t sample. This includes shampoo bars, jungle conditioner, full of grace, solid perfumes and some massage bars. They won’t always send everything that you ask for, especially if it’s tacked onto a smaller order… But use your manners and ask nicely in the delivery request section at the end of placing an order…

3. In store - ask for soap. Online, they do give you it - but considerably less.
