2010 - The Year of the Ban
February 20, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wild fur prices advanced STRONGLY on all articles at February’s Fur Harvesters Auction source
May 29th & 30th, 2010 Auction - All prices in U.S. dollars FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Our auction fell in line with our competitor’s earlier auction with price declines on most wild fur species compared to February levels. The exception was taxidermy items that saw strong demand and resulted in excellent prices. Clearances on some species were disappointing, however FHA firmly believes that wild fur is in the early stages of recovery and it’s important the auction houses support this recovery by limiting major price fluctuations. -source
Only 1 auction out of 3 in 2010 sold seal. "Fur Harvesters Auction opened the 2010 wild fur auction season with very positive gains, with most species showing healthy increases and excellent clearances. It was important for trappers as well as the trade to see some positive results after last year's disappointing season. For us waiting until spring for this to happen was not an option. "

2006:Seal sold at 1 out of 4 auctions. " A strong attendance of Russian, Chinese, European and North American buyers competed aggressively throughout the day." Hair Seal 6,224 96% $63.61 $111.18 Very Strong Demand -source
2005:Seal sold at 1 out of 4 auctions. "FHA’s December 17, 2005 auction was very successful. Our attendance of buyers exceeded last December’s. Beaver, muskrat and mink realized strong increases of at least 20% over last year’s levels. Otter remains firm to last year’s levels while fisher continues to rise. The amount of interest for most all wild fur species has been remarkable. Items such as fisher, lynx, bobcat, mink, beaver and muskrat are in very high demand. The buying community is pressing our firm very hard for details on what quantities will be available for our February 2006 auction. Marten is expected to see the highest price increases of any wild item this year. As FHA’s February 2005 auction witnessed the highest averages on many species, our reputation for handling the finest northern goods from several premier jurisdictions has created an exclusive marketing edge in our shippers favour. The world’s buying power looks to the company now when pressed to fill orders on select goods such as sable, beaver, fisher, lynx, fox and wild mink. We are very optimistic that with the conclusion of our December 2005 auction and with North Bay once again setting the market first, this trend of strong prices will only continue more aggressively as the season goes on." "Despite all the uncertainty in the world at this time, the results of the February 14, 2003 sale were remarkable. Long haired goods saw tremendous advances over December's levels. As well, beaver advanced 15%. The strong position taken by Greece and the attendance of new Russian accounts drove this much needed advancement. Otter advanced 45% due to strong competition from new players hungry for this item. Lynx and Lynx Cat realized the highest increases with both items advancing 90% thanks to the position taken by Greece and Italy. Top Bundle of Beaver purchased by Musi of Montreal" - source
