Tapani Tarvainen I guess this'll end up with France having to change its name. I'll refrain from making any suggestions. 3

James Sterbenz Why don't they have france.sucks?
Richard Sexton How do you know they don't.
None of you kids were in Berlin for my finest moment. Bob Shaw of the ITU was on stage and has just announced "oh by the way here's the gac which is non negotiable" and I got to ask a question and one of those 2 minute things where they have to pretend to listen while ignoring you. I asked "who in this rooms thinks the gac is a good idea put your hand up" and as I looked around while Shaw went off on stage and saw 11 hands go up, 8 of which were from the French government who has just taken over the DNS of all its possessions, the little islands in th Atlantic with French names.
So I for one and not surprised. Expect more as the rise of the corporate nation state does that colonial thing on the dns some guys in California made up in the mid 80s.
It's the ITU that's behind the GAC of course, the closed (but not locked) door meetings had good old Bob running those meetings.
They need to go if icann is to stay. If it can't be reformed into what it was supposed to be then it'll be routed around. They had their chance. Now it's over.
